Metal Madness

Hello, everyone!

The latest Cards 4 Guys challenge is all about metal, which I think is funny because the card I designed is covered in gears; in my house if something breaks, I'm usually the one that fixes it! (My husband happens to be better with computers. :)

I went with a birthday theme for this card so I could incorporate a few more challenges. (The Paper Players, in particular, have reached a pretty spectacular milestone over at their challenge blog and are throwing quite the celebration! See the link below.)

I cut the "Happy Birthday" greeting out of hammered silver specialty paper using an Impression Obsession die and popped the sentiment up on craft foam using Stick It adhesive.

In keeping with the metal theme, I then ran a piece of foil through my Sizzix Big Shot machine using the Creative Cogs M-Bossabilities folder by Spellbinders. I inked the embossed foil with jet black StazOn solvent ink to enhance the depth and detail in the cogs.

As you can see here, I may have gone a little crazy adding the mini gear embellishments by Tim Holtz, but I just love the texture!

I kept it pretty simple on the inside, adding just a "make a wish" in copper to complement the birthday theme and color palette. I thought it would be nice to have plenty of room to write a personal message here.

Finally, I took it easy this time around and chose to use dazzles to decorate the envelope. I thought the silhouettes of the cogs had just the look I was going for. (I just love the whole steampunk aesthetic!)
